Environmental Responsibility
At Wirehead, we share in the global responsibility for protecting and preserving our environment today and for future generations by practicing good environmental stewardship.
In an effort to be more environmentally conscientious we have gone to great lengths to try and reduce our footprint online where energy consumption is a paramount concern and as such we have implemented a number of progressive programs aimed at preserving and protecting our environment.
Our commitment to corporate, social and environmental responsibility drives us to look for ways to minimize any negative impact our business may have on the planet. This is where green energy certificates or Green Tags come into play. After auditing our energy usage, we were able to calculate the electricity usage of our office and computers. We were then able to purchase the necessary amount of Green Tags through a nationally recognized provider: The Pembina Institute. (www.pembina.org)

- We use recycled paper stock
- We only print paper documents when necessary
- E-billing: deliver invoices to clients via email when possible
- The majority of our staff uses laptop technology, it's more energy efficient
- Our systems & website(s) run on Linux servers that consume less power (See this article for details: http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/28621 )
- The majority of our staff either carpool, bike or take the "chariot of the people" (public transit) to the office
Modern IT systems rely upon a complicated mix of people, networks and hardware; as such, a green computing initiative must be systemic in nature, and address increasingly sophisticated problems. Elements of such a solution may comprise items such as:
- End user satisfaction
- Virtualization of server resources
- Energy use
- Thin client solutions
- Management restructuring
- Regulatory compliance
- Disposal of electronic waste
- Telecommuting
